Not Sheffield, Emulation or Oxford, but Common Sense Workings
The working tools of a Stay Safe Mason are Soap, Towel and
Sanitiser.
Soap a household item, so solid in its form is the first item to
be placed in the hands of a Mason, to enable him to wash and remove dirt and
grime as a result of work on which he has previously engaged, and thus clean in
due course.
The towel is an important implement in the process and one
highly esteemed as an instrument of drying. Though recognised by various
artists under different appellations, it is admitted by them all, that as a
result of work with manual skill and labour, hands cannot be dried without it.
The sanitiser comes in a small bottle, liquid or gel in form and
of such exquisite aroma as to fully compensate for its diminutive size. It is
calculated to cleanse all unclean substances, and the dirtiest of hands have
been indebted to its aid.
But as we are met on the present occasion and such unprecedented
times, it is not as operative, but rather free and accepted or Stay Safe
masons, it is the moral conveyed by these applications that we are more
particular to regard.
Thus from the soap we learn that it is used in a variety of
cleansing and lubricating products and usually used for washing, bathing, and other
types of housekeeping.
From the towel we learn that effort and
perseverance is needed to establish dry hands, and that the towel retains is
softness by the use of cotton material alone and that nothing short of
indefatigable exertion will induce the habit of virtue, enlighten the mind, and
render the towel soft.
From the sanitiser we learn that it is
available in several forms and will reduce the risk of infection. If not applied,
it increases the risk of sickness and the spread of germs.
