Henley Royal Regatta - At Home

The PGM Relaxing at Henley Royal Regatta
Henley Royal Regatta has played a big part in my life. I first attended in 1981 and I was fortunate enough to compete in the Pricess Elizabeth Challenge Cup in 1983 and have been a member of the Stewards Enclosure ever since. I still meet up with members of my crew and other friends at the regatta each year. While my children were young it was the highlight of our year, because it was the one of the very few things Helen and I were able to attend without the children.

The first regatta was in 1839 and it received it's "Royal" status from Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert. With the exception of the world wars and 2020 it has been held every year since then. This year there is a Henley at Home celebration on the 4th and 5th of July. If you haven't ever seen pictures of the regatta there are 2 short films below. One is the promo video for the Henley at Home event. The second one is the 2018 final from the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup, the event I raced in. St Pauls School beat the previous record for the event by 9 seconds. For non rowers that means they would have beaten the previous record holders by 3 lengths!
